The 4th Asian and African Stereology Congress was held in Arusha, Tanzania, with the support of the Turkish Stereological Society, International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) without any registration fee from the participants. Eighty-eight scientists from Türkiye, Tanzania, Somalia, Cameroon, Germany, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Iran, Yemen, and India attended the event.
The opening speeches of the congress were delivered by Prof. Dr. Süleyman Kaplan, President of the Turkish Stereological Society, followed by Prof. Maulilio J. Stereological approaches, which enable us to obtain detailed and unbiased information on the morphology of the structure in experimental studies, have reached a wider audience in African and Asian countries, with the fourth Asian and African Stereology Congress organized this year. The empirical studies presented on the innovations in stereological methods arouse the curiosity of new researchers in this field. It is clear that the sharing of scientific knowledge and experience by large audiences, thanks to such events, prepares the ground for new collaborations to be established at home and abroad. NM-AIST faculty members, researchers, and staff in Arusha, Tanzania, showed selfless hospitality, especially towards the scientists from Turkey. Such events, which spread the awareness and use of stereological techniques, have once again demonstrated the key role of our country's scientists in this field. Under the leadership of Ondokuz Mayıs University faculty members, four scientific events were held in Tanzania: Morogoro in June 2014, Zanzibar in April 2015, Arusha in March 2016, and finally, Arusha in November 2023. All of our events were supported by TIKA and OMU, and our last event also received support from IBRO.
After the congress, the delegate from OMU went to the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania and held meetings with Prof. Moh'd Makame Haji, Rector of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) and Prof. Ali M Ussi, Vice Rector of SUZA about bilateral academic cooperation and joint scientific activities. Both sides expressed their positive views and wishes for cooperation.
